ITALIAN AMBASSADOR ACKNOWLEDGES (LISWMC) LUSAKA INTERGRETED SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMPANY EFFORTS

His Excellency Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Enrico De Agostini, paid a courtesy call on Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company (LISWMC) for the purpose of appreciating the status of solid waste management in Lusaka city. This is against the background of the current outbreak of cholera in Lusaka and the importance of a clean environment resulting from having a good solid waste management system.
During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed interest in supporting different activities that are aimed at enhancing environmental protection. The areas that can be supported by the Italian Embassy are;
i. Promotion of source separation of waste
ii. Provision of street litter bins
iii. Awareness raising on the importance good solid waste management
Specifically, His Excellency the Ambassador has proposed to support a clean-up campaign that will be rolled out across the city. The first targeted community for clean-up is Chainda. The clean-up campaign will involve various stakeholders such as youth groups, civic leaders, business houses, and civil society organizations. The clean-up is planned to take place on 10th March, 2024, so that the activity becomes part of the events that will lead to the commemoration of the Youth Day that falls on 12th March, 2024.
